The Recorder has been accepted into NewsMatch, a grassroots fundraising program from the Institute for Nonprofit News that expands local news outlets’ fundraising capacity and builds community support for independent nonprofit news.
The Recorder is an INN member and was selected to participate in the program on the basis of our mission and reliance on community donations, in addition to paid subscriptions and advertising, to finance our operations.
NewsMatch funding will enable The Recorder to sustain and expand news gathering efforts at a time when news deserts, misinformation and waning trust in traditional newsrooms are accelerating. NewsMatch equips INN newsrooms with tools and training to raise funds from their communities through individual giving, generating local matches and other activities.
NewsMatch is supported by more than 20 of the leading journalism, public affairs, and media funders in the country, including the Henry Luce Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Tow Foundation, Walton Family Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundations. Details of The Recorder’s NewsMatch participation and donation opportunities will be announced in the fall.
