New plan for Lewisboro Elementary is better

To the Editor:

I went to the recent BOE meeting to hear about its new proposal for LES and think that this new plan is both reasonable and better.

We have to keep in mind that the state has mandated that school districts provide access to universal pre-K for all 4-year-olds as of 2028. Some neighboring districts are forced to buy land and build an additional school. Fortunately, we have both — although the building, the former Lewisboro Elementary School, needs a good deal of renovation. No other options seem viable.

Now the School Board has to lay out their new plan to the community. Tell us:

1. The pros and cons of using LES for this purpose, and how will the cons be addressed.

2. What will the project cost?

3. How much of it will be subsidized by the state?

4. What will it cost the average taxpayer in the Katonah Lewisboro School District per year?

If this is done clearly and transparently, I think the next vote will be successful.
