Meet Aliana Mediratta, The Recorder’s newest reporter

Aliana Mediratta

The Recorder is pleased to announce that a talented early career journalist has joined the staff.

Aliana Mediratta, a 2025 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, most recently wrote and produced videos for Verite News, a nonprofit online outlet in New Orleans. As a newsroom fellow there, she covered City Hall and broke news on police surveillance, election misinformation and labor laws, with a focus on transparency. 

She also interned at the Palo Alto Weekly in her hometown in California, covering housing and other community issues, and wrote for her university’s newspaper and was later elected to its board after graduating.

Her work has won several awards, including the Gregory Freeman Award for Outstanding Career Achievement in Journalism (2025) and Missouri College Media Association first-place awards for In-Depth Reporting (2023, 2024) and Investigative Reporting (2023).
