South Salem couple complains of $700K fraud
On Monday, July 28, at 6:45 p.m., fraud was reported by a South Salem couple who came to police headquarters to report $700,000 had been removed from their bank account. Because of the large sum of money involved, the wife was advised to go to the state police barracks in Somers the next day to speak with their investigator.
Decades-long neighbor dispute in Katonah
On Monday, July 28, at 12:15 p.m., police went to a home in Katonah for a dispute between two neighbors police say has gone on for three decades. The current allegation is that he’s burned her bushes. Police did observe a bush that appeared burned. The complainant said there are cameras on his property but she has no access as the installer and operator are no longer in business. Police advised her to install her own cameras; they attempted to speak with the neighbor who did not answer the door. He was contacted by phone later and said he’d been in Scarsdale and had not touched or torched his neighbor’s shrubbery.
Monday, July 28
10:00 a.m. — A man who fell at his South Salem home was taken by Vista EMS to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation. No further information was provided.
15:56 p.m. — Fraud was reported by a South Salem resident who was charged $1443 on a credit card by a scammer. She was alerted by Experian she had an unpaid credit card bill. Police provided her with paperwork to document the fraud.
18:30 p.m. — A man feeling faint by the beach area of Main Street, Goldens Bridge, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for evaluation.
Tuesday, July 29
12:05 p.m. — A South Salem woman who shares custody of her daughter complained to police that her daughter makes masked videos of herself to post on YouTube when she’s with her father which she does not approve of. She recently received a disconcerting phone call from an adult male who referred to her 11-year-old daughter as a potential real estate client. Some salty language ensued. She asked her daughter who this man was and her daughter said she didn’t know him. The videos, she told police, are only made at the father’s home. Police advised her to continue to discourage her daughter from making videos and to contact them again if there are further incidents.
9:05 p.m. — Police went to Wild Oaks condos in Goldens Bridge for a report of a man yelling in the parking lot. They knocked on the door of the yeller who was back inside his home. He answered the door in shorts and police observed him sweating profusely. He said he was just being loud because he loves God. The officer left but was contacted later in the evening by the man’s sister who said she was afraid he was coming to her home to ask for money. She advised he is a user of Ketamine. Units were sent to her residence in Somers as a precaution.
Wednesday, July 30
12:00 a.m. — A man who told police he has a drinking problem was taken by LVAC to Northern Westchester Hospital; police found him at the intersection of North Salem Road and Route 35. An officer went to his home in Cross River to tell his wife where he was.
6:30 p.m. — A man with no shirt was reported shouting and throwing things at the Wild Oaks condominiums. Police said it was the same man from the prior day. Police spoke with a concerned family member to assure them he was safe inside his apartment.
Thursday, July 31
11:57 a.m. — Police went to an address on Grandview Road, South Salem, for a harassment complaint between neighbors in the vicinity of the Brookside Trail. It appears to be a property issue. The harassment has taken the form of picture taking; there have been numerous incidents. A report of the harassment was made for documentation.
Friday, Aug. 1
8:05 a.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem to check on a resident whose sister said she hadn’t heard from him in some time. At the residence, police spoke to his wife who said he’d died in December. She said the family did not speak to each other.
Saturday Aug. 2
8:10 a.m. — A loose dog was reported in the roadway in North Salem. Police couldn’t find it.
5:15 p.m. — A loud, boisterous man in a Kia Sportage was reported in a parking lot in Goldens Bridge. Police, familiar with him, contacted his mom who said she was concerned what he might do if police tried to argue with or arrest him. It turned out to be a moot point as he was gone on their arrival. Two hours later police received another call about him throwing furniture out of his window. They went to his residence in Goldens Bridge to speak to him. He said he didn’t need help and was fine.
Sunday, Aug. 3
9:45 a.m. — An aggressive dog was reported by a caller in South Salem who had been walking his own dog on Gilbert Street. The owner came outside and called the dog back home and at no time did the dogs interact with each other physically. Police attempted to speak with the other party but were unable to make contact.
11:57 p.m. — A woman making s’mores with her children in the yard of their South Salem home was unaware her neighbor called in a fire because of her use of the fire pit. Police said there was no problem.
