Garden club is thankful for daffodil planting volunteers

To the Editor:

The Lewisboro Garden Club thanks the many town residents and groups who continue to create the Golden Roads of Lewisboro by planting daffodils along our roadsides.

On Nov. 1, volunteers planted 3,100 daffodils along the entrance drive at the Lewisboro Town Park in South Salem.

We thank our many volunteer planters including John Jay High School Environmental Science students; Cub Scout Pack 101, Girl Scout Daisy Troop 1040, Girl Scout Daisy Troop 1142, Town of Lewisboro Trail Volunteers, community residents and many Lewisboro Garden Club members.

We are grateful to our Golden Roads Daffodils Planting Day sponsors: Jennifer and Peter Cipirano, daffodil bulbs donors; Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate; King Lumber; Lize Lubbe Physical Therapy; Niles Insurance Agency; and to our other donors — thank you.

The garden club’s Golden Roads Daffodils initiative, in its 19th year, has planted over 69,000 daffodils along our town’s roadsides and residents have planted thousands more. Come April, look for our Golden Roads Daffodils Spring Driving Tour of all roadside daffodils at LewisboroGardenClub.org

Golden Roads Daffodils is one of many town beautification programs of our community service garden club.

Writer concerned U.S. is becoming something 'other than a democracy'

To the Editor:

I do not support today’s Republican Party. Lately I have been getting invitations to discuss politics with those who disagree with me. I am coming around to this idea, but I only want to talk to people who can admit this. You are supporting a man who poses a risk to our Constitution.

He is the only president who openly tried to change the result of a presidential election. He is the only president under whom our Capitol was attacked during what is supposed to be a peaceful transfer of power.

If the next presidential election is not fair, America as we know it is a thing of the past. There is a very real risk that could happen. If you can’t admit that, you are not being honest with yourself. But if you can admit that, and you open up yourself to rational reasoning, you have to agree that you are ultimately supporting him because you are willing to sacrifice our democracy for the reason you support him.

For those in other countries who support him, I can partially understand if you think he will do a better job of safeguarding your country than others. I don’t agree with it, but I can understand it. But for citizens of this country, I can’t think of any reason that would outweigh my incredibly large concern that it is moving towards an autocracy or an oligarchy or anything other than a democracy, or that my kids won’t grow up with as much freedom as I grew up with, or that we are repeating the tragic mistakes of the past.

That’s what I don’t understand. I would like to understand it. But for me to understand it, you have to at least admit the first part.
