Herbert Joseph Tinsley, 88, died at home in Somers on Dec. 18. Formerly of Bedford, he was born July 9, 1936, to Herbert W. Tinsley and Marie (Meany) Tinsley, in the Bronx and grew up in Yonkers.
Tinsley is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jacqueline Cox Tinsley, and four children,
Thomas, Maura Fisher, Eileen Scullin and John; and 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Claire Trost.
Tinsley was a graduate of Iona Prep, Georgetown University and Columbia University Law School. In addition, he was a member of ROTC and an Army veteran.
His family said he was a reserved man and had a great sense of humor.
His entire professional career was in banking in New York City, retiring from JP Morgan Chase. An avid reader throughout his life, as well as a history buff, he enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzles. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, always rooting for his beloved Georgetown Hoyas, the New York Mets and Giants, and enjoyed playing tennis with his friends in Bedford.
In addition, he was involved in coaching his children’s sports teams. He and his wife loved to travel, visiting their children and touring many countries over the years. They were members of St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford and St. Joseph’s Church in Somers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Church on Dec. 28. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery in Mount Kisco.
