Enzo Allegretti, formerly of Katonah, died June 4 at age 93.
Allegretti was born in New York City on Dec. 6, 1931, and lived in Lewisboro for almost 50 years. He was a graduate of Tuckahoe High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Fordham University in 1953. He received master’s degrees in history and education from Columbia University and a Ford Foundation Research Grant in 1956. While at Fordham he was in the ROTC and became an officer in the Air Force, based in San Antonio, Texas, during the Korean War. He subsequently held the rank of major in 9215th Air Reserve Squadron.
Allegretti started his career as an assistant professor at Fordham University and St. John’s University. He was appointed dean of administration at Westchester Community College and a professor of business and finance from 1965 until his retirement in the 1990s. He was also an adjunct professor of economics at the Lubin School of Business of PACE University.
Allegretti was committed to public service his entire life and served as chairman of the Tuckahoe Zoning Board of Appeals and a member of the Lewisboro Zoning Board of Appeals from 1962 to 1983 (as chairman for six years). He served on the planning boards for Lewisboro and Westchester County. He served for many years as chairman of the board of the American Red Cross Westchester Chapter. He was on various citizens advisory commissions, the Westchester Parks Association and was a trustee of a public library.
Allegretti and his wife, Ann, traveled extensively in retirement and enjoyed many years living in Brewster on Cape Cod, where he continued his public service by becoming chairman of the American Red Cross Cape and Islands Chapter and years dedicated to being a trustee and treasurer of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.
His family said he was a true patron of the arts who loved opera and Cape Rep Theatre. He enjoyed gardening, and hosting family and friends at the beach.
Allegretti is survived by his daughters, Regina Allegretti-Davenport (Jonathan) of Lewisboro, and Gioia Allegretti (John) of Palo Alto, Calf., and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Antoinette, in 2024.
His friends and family were received June 8, at Clark Associates Funeral Home. A funeral Mass and burial were held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne on June 9.
