Candidates forum set, question deadline soon

In anticipation of the upcoming election for Pound Ridge town supervisor and two Town Board positions, the League of Women Voters of New Castle will host a virtual Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

The nonpartisan forum will allow local voters to get to know the candidates and hear their responses to questions on topics of interest to community members.

The league seeks community input on topics of interest. It will review questions submitted by community members and will use the submissions to identify the topics and generate a set of questions covering as many as possible in the available time.

To submit a question, use the Google form link at  http://bit.ly/46qXJVU.

Questions must be submitted by noon on Thursday, Sept. 25.

The forum will be conducted via Zoom. For registration, visit http://bit.ly/46qXIBk.

The forum will also be available to watch on the New Castle Community Media Center YouTube channel beginning Oct. 1. For more information, visit lwv.org/new-york/new-castle.

Library’s move to 7-day week proves popular

The recent move to open the Pound Ridge Library seven days a week has been received positively, Library Director Jennifer Coulter told the library Board of Trustees on Sept. 15.

Prior to the beginning of the month, the library was closed Sunday and Monday.

At this week’s meeting, Trustee Jenna Wise asked Coulter if Sunday or Monday was more popular with library patrons.

“I’m really pleased to say that it’s been very popular both days,” Coulter replied. “It’s such an incredible reaction from the public.”

Wise said Coulter and the library staff were doing a great job implementing the schedule, and the library should continue to promote the seven-day schedule. The library should make business owners and schools in town aware of the new schedule, she added.

“I think it does go a long way,” Wise said.

Coulter said she hoped to promote the new seven-day schedule at the Pound Ridge Harvest Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 4.

In conjunction with the new library schedule, the board voted unanimously to approve a new holiday schedule.

The library will be closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
