Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Caramoor ready for 80th year with summer of performances

This summer Caramoor is celebrating its 80th year as “a haven for musical and artistic discovery” with seven weeks of performances in its open-air venues and intimate indoor spaces. 

The grounds open to the public for summer June 1 for everyone to enjoy Caramoor’s “Sonic Innovations” sound art installations.  

The first concert of the season is a free Juneteenth celebration with music from the Legendary Ingramettes (June 15), followed by the opening night concert June 21 with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s performing “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony” led by conductor Rafael Payare making his Caramoor debut. The orchestra performs two more times this summer with programs July 13 as well as the season finale on Aug. 3.

Highlights include concerts with Yo-Yo Ma teaming up with Emanuel Ax and Leonidas Kavakos performing the latest iteration of their “Beethoven for Three” project (July 30); and solo piano recitals by Daniil Trifonov (June 27), Timo Andres (July 24) and George Li (July 19). 

New music from So Percussion and Caroline Shaw (July 10); American Roots from Lyle Lovett and His Large Band (Aug 2); and Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway (July 19). Also the all-day American Roots Music Festival (June 28), and the popular Jazz Festival (July 26) featuring headliner Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. Bring your blankets and chairs for more jazz on Friends Field on July 3 with Endea Owens and The Cookout.

This season The Knights will return in a performance featuring mandolinist Chris Thile (July 20); Bang on a Can will present Terry Riley’s “In C” in a free performance in the Sunken Garden (July 27). There will be two early operas, Telemann’s “Pimpinone & Ino” (June 29) and Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” (July 12). 

A celebration of Broadway Pride hosted by SiriusXM On Broadway with on-air personality Seth Rudetsky (June 26), and the popular Saturday morning music and meditation events in the Sunken Garden (July 5, 12 and 19). 

Dance returns July 17 with Music From The Sole; Friends Field for salsa dura music from La Excelencia (July 5); and jazz-influenced arrangements of traditional Gullah music from Ranky Tanky (July 11).
