Snapping turtle strolls along Katonah Avenue
On Wednesday, July 2, at 6 a.m., a turtle was reported on the sidewalk in front of Squires in Katonah. On arrival, police saw a small snapping turtle walking on Katonah Avenue. A cardboard box was obtained from a business owner and the officer placed the turtle inside the box and took it to commuter Lot 1 to release it near reservoir water.
Monday, June 30
8:17 p.m. — A “be on the lookout” alert was issued to Bedford Police for a silver Volkswagen SUV traveling on Interstate 684 where either the operator or a passenger displayed a weapon. Police looked for the vehicle with negative results.
7:04 p.m. — Property damage was reported as a result of a collision involving two cars traveling on Woodsbridge Road, Katonah. One driver was stopped at the intersection of Route 35 when it was rear-ended by a second vehicle. Police said neither car was towed and no tickets were issued.
Tuesday, July 1
3:15 p.m. — Police went to a residence on Rome Avenue, Bedford Hills, after no one was home to answer the door for a Meals on Wheels delivery. This time the resident came to the door and said he was fine. Another meal delivery was scheduled.
4:16 p.m. — Police responded to the DeCicco Family Markets parking lot in Katonah for a report of a child locked inside a car. On their arrival, the caller said they no longer needed assistance.
Wednesday, July 2
1:15 p.m. — A female, 39, was taken from a business in Bedford Hills, where she works, by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital after she sent texts threatening to self-harm.
3:39 p.m. — A man who was already in Bedford Court for an unknown reason was taken into custody by Bedford Police after they learned he was wanted on a bench warrant issued by New York State Police. The man told a Bedford police officer he knew about the active warrant; he was placed in a holding cell until state police arrived to take him into their custody.
10:25 p.m. — Airbags were deployed during a one-car crash on Cherry Street, Katonah, after the operator, male, 17, from Katonah, told police he didn’t see the stop sign. The teen was headed west on Valley Road and crashed into a stone wall on private property, police said. The operator and his passenger, 17, from South Salem, refused medical attention after being evaluated by medics. The car was towed. No citations were issued. The property owner was notified of the collision by police.
Thursday, July 3
11:27 a.m. — Police assisted a person who said they needed help retrieving air pods they’d lost on a Metro-North train. They used a locator app that said the air pods were in Katonah at a Jay Street address. They went to the home and spoke with a woman who said she knew nothing about any air pods and seemed scared. Police arrived and spoke to a male who said he found the air pod case and was waiting for someone to claim it. The property was returned to the owner.
12:19 p.m. — Police helped recover a tractor-trailer reported stolen and seen traveling on Interstate 684. New York State Police took over after the trailer was stopped and the operator apprehended.
9:16 p.m. — A couple who argued over the effect social media was having on their lives brought police to the home. One of the individuals has an active bench warrant issued by Westchester County Police. She was taken into custody and brought to headquarters until a county police officer arrived to pick her up.
10:49 p.m. — A female, 15, from Cross River was taken by Bedford firefighters to Northern Westchester Hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning while attending a party at a Katonah home. The host, a parent, was issued a summons for violating the social host law permitting underage drinking. That person is scheduled to appear in Bedford Court July 23.
Friday, July 4
9:57 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a possible boiler fire at a residence on Greenwich Road, Bedford. On their arrival a woman said there was no fire, but likely a skunk, that was the cause of the foul aroma.
Saturday, July 5
3:09 a.m. — A female, 21, from Bedford was conscious and breathing after being reported as having a possible overdose at her home. She was evaluated by a medic who thought she might have alcohol poisoning. She declined further medical attention.
9:24 p.m. —A caller in Katonah on The Terrace reported fireworks multiple times. Police were unable to locate the source of the fireworks.
Sunday, July 6
12:12 p.m. — Police intervened between a divorcing couple at a residence in Bedford; the man said he wanted to take his son to a party in another county. The mother didn’t want him to take their son because she was certain he would be drinking alcohol at the party and was concerned for the child. The man agreed to go to the party by himself. ANew York state domestic incident report was completed.
1:32 a.m. — A resident of Katonah, male, 50, was arrested on Cross River Road, Katonah, charged with driving while intoxicated. Police on patrol saw him make a turn in the vicinity of Goldens Bridge Road; he began traveling on the wrong side of the roadway. He was stopped quickly and appeared highly intoxicated, police said. He told the officer he’d had one beer. Field sobriety tests were initiated and failed and the man was placed under arrest. He was brought to Westchester County police headquarters in Mount Kisco for the chemical test and then arraigned and processed in Bedford. His car was towed and he was issued four summonses and is expected to return to court July 16.
11:35 p.m. — A Bedford man diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease was reported violently shaking his wife, which frightened her, especially as he woke her from her sleep. Police spoke with the couple’s daughter who said she would come and stay with her parents for the night. She was provided with senior assistance and services information and a New York state domestic incident report was completed.
