Bedford Police Report Dec. 30-Jan. 4

Woman foils car theft attempt

On Sunday,  Jan. 5, at 2:16 p.m., a resident of  Katonah Crossing Court, Katonah, foiled an attempted car break in. Police say she was in the kitchen washing dishes when she saw a person walking down her driveway and entering her vehicle. She stepped outside and yelled at him and he fled in an SUV. She said nothing was stolen. Police looked for the SUV with negative results. Detectives are investigating. 


Monday, Dec. 30

7:22 a.m. — A caller on Hickory Lane, Bedford, requested assistance for a vehicle on their property stuck in the mud. On arrival, police saw it stuck on the front lawn. A tow company was summoned to remove it.  

1:23 p.m. — A male, 66, from Ridgefield, Conn., was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after suffering a cardiac condition at the Bedford Shell service station in Bedford Village. First responders said he was conscious and alert. 

2:14 p.m. — Police were flagged down at the Bedford Shell service station in Bedford Village by a woman who said she was being followed. She pointed out a man standing outside his vehicle in the parking lot who had tailgated her and followed her. Police spoke with the man who said a small rock flew up from under the woman’s car and struck his windshield; he believed her responsible for any damage. The officer informed him that wasn’t the case and the man continued to disagree. At that point the officer warned him to stop following her. No further information was provided.


Tuesday, Dec. 31 

1:44 p.m. — Larceny was reported by a resident of  Norm Avenue, Bedford Hills, who showed police his pickup truck which was broken into. Items were stolen. Police saw the passenger side window was broken and a broken wood handle was found on the ground, likely the tool used to break the glass. Detectives arrived to process the scene. The incident is under investigation.  

4:26 p.m. — A server working at a catering job in Bedford was reported feeling faint. First responders met with a female, 66, from Campbell Hall, Orange County, who was evaluated on scene. She decided she was fine and didn’t need assistance.  

5:48 p.m. — A man was reported on Millertown Road, Bedford, pushing a red pickup truck up the hill, accompanied by a pony. Police on arrival saw the truck, unoccupied, in the middle of the road. They looked for the man and the pony. The man found them first to say his boss’s pony got loose and he’d brought it safely home. No further mention was made in the police report of the abandoned vehicle.  

11:19 p.m. — A residence on Old Katonah Road, Katonah, was reportedly struck by lightning followed by an acrid odor of something burning. Police and Katonah firefighters arrived and the source of the odor was discovered in a closet containing radio equipment. The equipment was unplugged and there was no active fire. Whether the house was struck by lightning is unconfirmed.  


Wednesday, Jan. 1

3:55 a.m. — A domestic incident was reported by a resident of Lawrence Avenue, Bedford Hills, who reported an incident between her and her husband a few hours earlier; he was not currently at home. She told police they’d gone to a New Year’s Eve party in Connecticut. Her husband left early and she caught a ride home later with a friend. On her arrival home they argued and shoved each other and a snowglobe was thrown. He cleaned it up and went to his brother’s home. A New York state domestic incident report was completed. Police say alcohol was involved.  

5:13 p.m. — A female, 58, from Bedford, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Bedford firefighters after being reported as intoxicated at a restaurant on Old Post Road, Bedford. Police said she was “incapable of self-care and highly intoxicated.”  


Thursday, Jan. 2

11:23 a.m. — A water issue activated an alarm at a commercial business on Adams Street, Bedford Hills. As the building was unoccupied, the Bedford Hills fire chief entered it and turned off the water line. The property manager was notified.  


6:49 a.m. to 9:27 p.m. — Due to inclement weather, trees and wires were reported down on Anderson Road, Katonah; Fox Lane, Bedford; Cross River Road, Katonah; Stone Hill Road, Bedford; and Cherry Street, Bedford Hills. 


Friday, Jan. 3

10:39 a.m. — A man was reported as behaving in a suspicious manner on Broad Brook Road, Bedford Hills. He was described as wearing a blue jacket and black trousers. Police located him and he said he’d left the house upset by family issues and was walking into town to collect his vehicle. No further action was taken.  

9:05 p.m. — A man dressed in black was reported suspicious by a caller who said he was standing on the Interstate 684 overpass at Broad Brook Road, Bedford Hills. Also reported at the same time was an unidentified flying object heading towards the airport. The man told police he was out taking a walk and saw the unidentified flying object and was the one who called it in. Police received another call at the same time about a suspicious man dressed in dark clothing on Broad Brook Road carrying a cane. 


Saturday, Jan. 4

11:31 a.m. — A loose horse was reported on Jay Street, Katonah. On police arrival they spoke with a woman who said she was the owner and had caught the horse.  

7:18 p.m. —A male, 75, from Rye was conscious and alert but weak and unsteady after his wife reported he fainted while they were eating dinner at a restaurant on Adams Street, Bedford Hills. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.
