Bedford 2030 presents ‘Climate, Health & Hope’

Bedford 2030 will bring three leading voices in climate and health together on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Bedford Playhouse for “Close to Home: Climate, Health & Hope.”

Organizers say it will be an evening exploring the increasingly urgent connection between the environment and our health. The conversation will be moderated by David Pogue, a “CBS News Sunday Morning” correspondent, bestselling author and Bedford 2030 board member.

The panelist lineup includes Dr. Sandra Steingraber, biologist, author, cancer survivor, and co-founder of Concerned Health Professionals of New York;

Dr. Amy Brown, pediatric pulmonologist, professor of public health, and assistant director of the Children’s Environmental Health Center of the Hudson Valley; and Jack Algiere, founding farmer and director of agroecology at Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture.

The panelists will explore how climate change and environmental exposures affect human health — from degraded air quality and children’s developing lungs to chemicals and pollutants linked to cancer — and the potential for regenerative agriculture to restore both soil and human health.

Attendees will discover the choices, solutions, and community action that

can help build a healthier future.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with light bites, refreshments and an intimate preview of Bedford 2030’s silent auction, featuring exclusive experiences, sporting opportunities, and local treasures. All auction proceeds will support Bedford 2030’s community climate action work.

The panel discussion begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by an opportunity to mingle with the speakers and fellow community members. At 7:45 p.m. guests can enjoy sweet treats and drinks, continue bidding in the silent auction, and meet Algiere at a book signing for “Seeding Hope.”

The Bedford Playhouse is located at 633 Boston Post Road, Bedford. Visit bedfordplayhouse.org for tickets and more information.
