A local guide to Memorial Day parades and ceremonies

All Memorial Day programs listed below are scheduled for Monday, May 25, unless noted otherwise. Please check websites for additional information and updates.

Bedford Village

Bike and scooter decorating contest: To enter, stop by the Post Office from 10:30 a.m. on to register your 2-, 3- or 4-wheelers, then ride in the parade. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the ceremonies on the Village Green.

The parade starts approximately 11:30 a.m., at the corner of Seminary Round and Pound Ridge Road (Route 172 ), and turns right onto Pound Ridge Road ending at the Village Green.

Ceremonies will be held on the Village Green after the parade at the World War I, World War II, Korean, Vietnam and Gulf War memorials. Afterwards, visit the Bedford Fire Department for light refreshments and a ceremony there honoring veterans who were also volunteer firefighters.

Starting at 11:45 a.m., the Bedford Historical Society will host colonial games, serve free ice cream and give tours of the 1829 School House.


Bedford Hills

Get ready for the Memorial Day parade with a bike decorating activity for kids, tweens and families today, Friday, May 22, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the driveway of the Bedford Hills Free Library. The program is co-sponsored by the Bedford Hills Business Association. 

The Bedford Hills Memorial Day Parade, which starts at 8:45 a.m., will proceed on Babbit Road, and continue to Church Street and Main Street. Wreath dedications will take place at the Community House and Depot Plaza War Memorials.


Goldens Bridge

The Goldens Bridge Fire Department Memorial Day Parade steps off at 9:15 a.m., at Bradys Farm Road. Marchers should gather on Bradys Farm Road (off Route 138 just east of the firehouse) by 9 a.m. Children are invited  to decorate bicycles and scooters and ride them in the parade. Spectators can watch the parade along Route 138 between Bradys Farm Road and the firehouse. Edward Brancati, a U.S Army veteran and chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Goldens Bridge Fire District, will serve as Grand Marshal.

The ceremony will begin at the firehouse at 9:35 a.m. Guest speakers will include John Lemke, chair of the Lewisboro Veterans Advisory Committee. A wreath placement will be held at the American Legion Monument engraved with the names of Goldens Bridge residents who served in World War I and World War II. Breakfast will be served following the event.

Katonah 

The Katonah Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m., at Katonah Fire Department headquarters. The parade will proceed down Katonah Avenue to Parkway, and stop at Lawrence Circle, where the Memorial Day Ceremony will take place. Following the ceremony, the parade will proceed down Bedford Road and end up back at Fire Department headquarters. Following the parade and ceremony, American Legion Post 1575 will serve free ice cream in the back of the firehouse. 


Mount Kisco

Mount Kisco will commemorate the 100th  anniversary of the 1926 American Legion Post 136 Building with a ceremony Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m., at the monument in front of the Mount Kisco Public Library, 100 East Main St. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served at the American Legion, 1 Legion Way. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held inside the American Legion. 


Pound RIdge

The Pound Ridge Memorial Day parade steps off at noon from Pound Ridge Elementary School, 7 Pound Ridge Road, and continues to the cemetery for a ceremony featuring speakers and special guests. The community is invited to the Town Park after the ceremony to enjoy a barbecue, live music and patriotic activities for all ages.

South Salem/Vista

The day will begin with the  47th annual South Salem Memorial Day Races at the Lewisboro Library, 16 Main St. Start times are 8 a.m. (10K), 9:30 a.m. (5K), 9:45 a.m. (MS Health Walk), 10:45 a.m (Mile Fun Run) and 11 a.m. (Pee Wee Dash).  

The Lewisboro Memorial Day Parade will assemble at 11:45 a.m., on Lakeshore Drive, Truesdale Lake South End, and step off at 12:15 p.m. Following the parade, ceremony and services will be held at the Town House, 11 Main St., South Salem.
