David Pogue to talk climate change at Bedford Playhouse

Join David Pogue — CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner, and author of “How to Prepare for Climate Change” — for a Bedford 2030 Community Climate Conversation at the Bedford Playhouse.

It’s a talk about the bright side of the climate crisis. Pogue will share 10 reasons to feel hopeful — and 10 actions you can take right now to help turn things around in our community. 

The Community Climate Conversation, presented in partnership with Bedford 2030, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at the Bedford Playhouse, located at 633 Old Post Road, Bedford. For tickets and more information, visit bedfordplayhouse.org/live-events/.


Model train show on display in Bedford Hills through Jan. 28

The Bedford Hills Historical Museum is hosting a “New Model Train Show” on the lower level of the Town of Bedford building located at 321 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The display is open Thursday and Saturday through Jan. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Visitors can see the HO Gauge model trains run on the track in the village that was built by the late Dr. Robert Bibi of Katonah and donated by his wife, Maria, and reinstalled at the museum. With the guidance of our board member and train aficionado, Rick Carmichael, members of the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club installed the HO-gauge set at the museum where it remains on display. 

The museum says the new model train display is great for kids of all ages and adults, and it’s free of charge.

Pound Ridge Police Report Nov. 3-11

Tuesday, Nov. 5

2:12 a.m. — Police went to a home on Salem Road for an unknown emergency. On arrival, the resident said they’d accidentally activated their medical assistive device and no assistance was required.

8:10 a.m. — Fire was reported on Davids Lane; smoke was reported coming from a light bulb. Pound Ridge firefighters arrived and shut the breaker off. The homeowner was advised to call an electrician. 

2:00 p.m. — A goat was reported roaming on Honey Hollow Road. The goat was subsequently returned to its owner. 


Wednesday, Nov. 6

12:10 a.m. — A woman was taken from her home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Pound Ridge Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided. 

7:10 a.m. — A woman was taken from her home to Northern Westchester Hospital by Pound Ridge Ambulance Corps. No further information was provided. 

1:45 p.m. — Trespass was reported on Miller Road. On police arrival two men who were fishing left the area. The property owner was advised to post “no trespassing” signs. 

1:59 p.m. — A collision was reported on Pound Ridge Road. When police went to the scene, no one was there. 

5:00 p.m. — During a radar traffic enforcement detail on Westchester Avenue, one driver was issued a summons for doing 54 mph in a 30-mph zone. 


Thursday, Nov. 7 

11:00 a.m. — A domestic incident was reported on Highview Road. No further information was provided. 


Friday, Nov. 8

2:36 p.m. — A suspicious person was reported on Upper Shad Road. The complainant described a man with an iPad knocking on their door; they didn’t answer. Police checked the area with negative results. 

7:55 p.m. — A caller reported Kendall Road was blocked. A tree was found blocking the roadway and the highway department was advised. 

8:20 p.m. — A caller on Kitchawan Road reported a tree limb came down on his car, damaging his windshield. A report was made for documentation. No one was injured. 


Saturday, Nov. 9

4:35 a.m. — A summons was issued to a car parked on Old Stone Hill Road for an expired inspection sticker.  

11:25 a.m. — During a radar detail on Westchester Avenue, police saw a speeding car. A DMV check showed the operator’s license was suspended. The driver, a resident of Beacon, was arrested and brought to headquarters for processing. He also received a speeding ticket. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 25. 

4:45 p.m. — A caller reported Cross Pond Road was blocked due to a downed power line. NYSEG was contacted and said they would respond. 


Monday, Nov. 11 

9:00 a.m. — A caller on Westchester Avenue reported an unknown blonde female was at their address. Police looked for her with negative results.

9:50 a.m. — Three traffic summonses were issued to drivers traveling on Long Ridge Road: one for having an unregistered vehicle; two for using cellphones while driving. 

11:40 a.m. — A neighbor to neighbor conflict was reported on Twin Fawn Lane. No further information was provided. 

8:59 p.m. — A car struck a deer on Salem Road. There were no injuries reported and the car didn’t require a tow. No information was provided on the deer.
